From Dreamer to Doer: Which Type Are You, Really?

Athlete from behind on the way into training – from dreamer to doer at CFC Villach

You're interested in martial arts, self-defense or combat sports – but something is holding you back? Welcome to the club of most people. In the next five minutes you'll recognize yourself, understand why you haven't started yet – and know exactly how to change that.

After nearly three decades of teaching, we know one thing: there aren't a hundred different motives — there are three very clear types. And each of them decides long before the first punch whether interest turns into skill.

Type 1: The Talker

The talker arrives with many questions: is the system original? Does it work against style X, weapon Y, a 120-kilo attacker in the rain? He has „dipped into” five clubs, spotted the weaknesses everywhere – and stayed in none longer than six weeks. He knows a lot from YouTube and can barely do anything. Friendly but honest: we don't want to convince this type. Anyone who knows before the first session why it won't work will find the fitting reason afterwards.

Want to know which type you are?
Stay with us – we'll show you how.

Type 2: The Postponer

The postponer is likable and genuinely interested. He writes friendly messages, asks about times, thanks you, comes back – and then simply never makes it fit. Work, family, holiday, a cold: there is always a good reason to push the trial lesson back by two weeks. Two weeks become half a year. Whoever starts in autumn can fight the next autumn. Whoever ponders in autumn will still be pondering the next autumn.

Type 3: The Doer

The doer has already decided internally before writing to us. For him, the trial lesson is not an exam but a validation: do venue, team and system match his decision? He asks few, precise questions, brings sportswear, listens, joins in. Afterwards he asks not „if” but „when” he can start. Interesting: this type is rarely the most talented – but he's the one who, after five years, has long overtaken the supposedly gifted.

And what if you're a completely new type we haven't met yet?
The trial lesson will tell you which type you truly are.

The real opponent is inner resistance

Planning feels safe because it has no consequences. Acting creates friction: sore muscles, unfamiliar movements, that brief „I-can't-do-this-yet” feeling in the first session. Skill is born in exactly that friction. Those who avoid it stay spectators in their own life. Every coach and Sifu at CFC once stood at the door in sportswear not knowing what to come. The difference between them and the procrastinators isn't talent – it's the one second in which they walked through the door instead of turning around.

Your 60-second self-test

  1. You've wanted to start something for at least three months. Did you begin?
  2. Over the last five years, have you spent more time reading about self-defense than practicing it?
  3. When you decide on something, how long until the first concrete step – hours, days or months?
  4. Do you tend to look for reasons to start – or for reasons to wait?

Hesitating on two or more? Then you still belong to the talkers or postponers. No shame – just a diagnosis. The treatment lasts 60 minutes.

Your next step

In a trial lesson at CFC in Villach you get an honest picture in one single session. The trial lesson is already a first modular training service, regardless of what you decide afterwards. For children from age 7, teens and adult women and men.

We come from practice: martial arts experience since 1990, 25 years of operational security. That's not a marketing line – it's the reason we don't lecture at CFC, we train. Sixty minutes are enough to trigger a clear signal in you: „this is exactly what I was looking for” – or „this is not my path”. Both are honest results. The only non-result is the excuse to keep not knowing.

The best time to start was five years ago. The second best is this week. Move from dreamer to doer – not because we'll persuade you, but because you no longer want to lie to yourself. Stop dreaming. Start training.
