Why Consistent Training Decides Everything – And How Much Is Enough

CFC Die Kampfkunstschule is the center for close combat and self-defense in Villach. Training is under the direction of Sifu Erich Ferlesch, who brings martial arts experience since 1990 and 25 years of operational security experience. The most common question before starting is not “which technique do I learn first?” but “how often do I have to train?” – and that question decides the outcome.
Capability comes from repetition, not from knowledge
Under stress people do not fall back on what they know, but on what they have repeated thousands of times. If you only understand a movement, you can explain it. If you repeat it regularly under controlled load, you can recall it. That is the difference between attending a course and following a structured education.
The benchmark: twice a week
- Twice a week: noticeable progress and stable technical development
- Once a week: enough to stay connected to the material
- Irregularly: you largely start over in every session
What matters is not a single intense week, but a calm rhythm sustained over months. That is why we work by appointment in Villach instead of a rigid schedule: your training rhythm has to fit your job, family and daily life, otherwise it will not last.
What changes, and when
- After a few weeks: better body awareness, calmer breathing, clearer judgement of distance.
- After a few months: first movements run without conscious thought, reactions under pressure stabilise.
- After a year: principles instead of isolated techniques – you solve situations you never drilled directly.
Consistency is also a safety issue
Half-knowledge is more dangerous in an emergency than no knowledge at all. Anyone who only half-masters a defense walks into a situation they should have avoided. Consistent training therefore develops not only technique but also a realistic assessment of your own ability – a core part of the training at CFC.
Frequently asked questions about training frequency
How often should I train as a beginner?
Twice a week is the benchmark. Once a week is enough to stay in it – consistency over months is what matters.
What happens after a longer break?
The fundamentals stay, the timing does not. After a break we bring you back in deliberately instead of just continuing.
Can I adapt sessions to my job?
Yes. In Villach we train by appointment so your rhythm stays realistic alongside daily life.
