What this is really about
Realistic self-defense does not start with individual techniques – it starts with understanding distance, movement, the situation and the right action. Once you can read how close someone is, where a situation is heading and what response is appropriate right now, you need far fewer techniques and apply them far more reliably. That is what our close-combat training in Villach is built around.
Concrete scenarios instead of abstract techniques
We train the situations that actually happen in everyday life: the walk from the train station after dark, the night shift, intrusive behaviour at the Kirchtag or a conflict escalating within family life. Each scenario is first discussed – distance, position, exits, legal boundaries – and then practised physically. That way you know not only what you can do, but also when which action is appropriate and legally sound.
The building blocks: self-defense & tactical close combat
Distance management and movement form the base. On top of that come strikes, kicks, throws, joint locks and ground fighting – always embedded in concrete defensive situations. Add tactical behaviour (position, surroundings, exits, de-escalation) and pressure training, where you apply what you have learned under stress. The goal is not to show as many techniques as possible, but to develop skills that hold up under stress.
How beginners progress, step by step
Fundamentals → technique → application → pressure → adaptation. First you understand posture, distance and movement. Then techniques are added, followed by partner application, then training under rising pressure – and finally the ability to adapt when a situation does not go to plan. Nobody has to skip a stage; each one builds on the last.
How self-defense fits at CFC
Training at CFC Die Kampfkunstschule covers Wing Chun, FMA – Filipino Martial Arts and HEMA – Historical European Martial Arts. Close combat and self-defense are CFC's specialisation, while combat-sports training is a complementary offering. That is how our center for close combat & self-defense in Villach delivers one continuous training path instead of a set of separate courses.
No combat-sport show. Real practice.
At CFC in Villach you don't train for trophies – you train for everyday life. Awareness, de-escalation and clear decision-making come before any technique, so you stay calm and safe when it matters.
Operational experience instead of theory
Our training is based on decades of martial arts experience – Wing Chun, FMA/Eskrima – and operational security work. Not on competition rules, not on YouTube knowledge. You learn movements that hold up under pressure and stand up legally.
Legal basics included
We don't only teach technique, but also what actually applies legally in a self-defense situation: proportionality, the limits of self-defense and how to react in Villach or Carinthia without becoming the accused yourself.
For every level
Programs for women, men, kids and groups – adapted to real everyday situations, not to sport rules. Night shift, the walk from the train station, the Kirchtag in Villach or family life: we train what you really need.
Fair, transparent, no lock-in contracts
No long contract commitments, no hidden costs. At CFC what counts is that you actually feel safer – not how long you're locked in. You decide when and how intensively you continue.
Why train at CFC?
We provide structured training in close combat and self-defense in Villach. Training is under the direction of Sifu Erich Ferlesch – martial arts experience since 1990 and 25 years of practical experience in close protection. The training path is clearly structured, groups stay small and every student is coached personally.
